Name
A Race Against Fire - Telling the Mann Gulch story through Cross Curricular Exploration
Description

The 1949 Mann Gulch Fire (immortalized by Norman MacLean's book, "Young Men and Fire") changed the way the Forest Service confronted wildland fire forever. As part of the leadup to the 50th anniversary in 1999, a curriculum was created to explore this incident through the lens of math, science, language arts, and social studies. We revisit this curriculum as we near the 75th anniversary and share additional resources curated by high school students. Learn how you can bring this Montana story to life with your students, and find online resources to support a lesson or unit within your own curriculum.
