Name
Preventing and Responding to Sexual Abuse
Description
Childhood sexual abuse remains an epidemic that is not often discussed. This session focuses on ways educators can help protect students from sexual predators and help those who have been victimized. Although sexual abuse in general will be covered, this will also focus on sexual abuse by school personnel. This is a unique sexual abuse prevention training as the presenter survived sexual abuse by one of her elementary teachers and will weave nongraphic parts of her story through the discussions of grooming, ways children disclose, sign of abuse, impacts of trauma, etc. There will be several handouts for participants, including one that will have a list of recommended books.
