Name
Cancelled - What is Sound Art?; Its Relevance and Professional Opportunities for Students
Description

“Sound Art” is a term that is seemingly an obvious concept, represented simply through the term itself, yet can be confounding and intimidating for the uninitiated. In this session, the medium of Sound Art will be discussed and overviewed, offering participants a broad introduction to the range of practices available, with particular attention payed to listening-based practices. This session will also discuss why sound art is relevant to the modern student and the growing artistic practice, as well as the professional opportunities that exist for individuals who choose to pursue sound as a discipline of study in higher education. Finally, this session will present some basic listening practices, sound creation approaches, and means of engaging in a practice of sound art both with and without digital technologies. Participants will be guided through intentional listening practices, using approaches appropriate for their classrooms or own artistic practices.
