Kate Brayko, Ph.D. lives in Missoula (Nɫʔay), where she is a Professor of Literacy Education at the University of Montana. She worked as a literacy educator in schools, jails, and community centers in urban and rural contexts, including the Tohono O’odham and Yakama Indian Reservations, before earning a Ph.D. at the University of Washington. Her scholarship, which has been published in journals like the Journal of Teacher Education and the International Journal of Inclusive Education explores school-community-university partnerships as pathways for improving language and literacy learning opportunities for students and teachers. She is a Montana University System Teaching Scholar and a recipient of UM’s highest teaching honor, the Distinguished Teaching Award.
