Speaker Bio
Following a career teaching math and computer science to students in the mid-west for 16 years, I fell in love with Montana and moved to Forsyth to become THE high school math department. I have looped in the past, but fell in love with the idea that I could really follow my students through their high school experience. I loved teaching Math I, Math II, and Pre-Calculus at the college level as well - so I ended up at UM getting my MATSM degree in 2022 so I could teach dual credit here in Montana. I currently have a Precalculus class and I am looking forward to teaching a dual credit stats class with Miles City Community College next year. Once I settled in MT, I changed the sequencing at Forsyth from AGA2 to GAA2 after totally buying the idea from NCTM's Catalyzing Change in HS book. This new approach has improved the % of students passing Algebra I and, I believe, improved the rigor of my Algebra 2 class as well. Another innovation was the addition of the project-based course, Technical Mathematics. This course was initially promoted as a 3rd year course for those NOT taking Algebra 2, but it has become a valuable year for struggling freshmen, before Geometry, and this class has been well mixed for the 3 years since its inception. My speaker experiences have varied from state conferences to local affiliation workshops - this is my 3rd year speaking at MFPE Educator Conference.
