MUSEUM AS MEGAPHONE! Free "Virtual" Art Program for Grades 4-8 at the Missoula Art Museum (MAM)
Description

Learn about MUSEUM AS MEGAPHONE: MAM's FREE virtual learning opportunity in the visual arts. This statewide resource is for 4th-8th grade teachers who are hungry for visual art and creativity in their classroom while satisfying state and national core standards in social studies, visual arts, English language arts, and Indian Education for All (IEFA). MUSEUM AS MEGAPHONE is housed on an INTERACTIVE, virtual platform in collaboration with educational tech company, Inspired Classroom, and connects students directly to visual art on display at MAM, a professional artist LIVE from their art studio, and arts educators at the MAM. Using a remote WIFI connection, students embrace an interactive, inquiry-based virtual tour at a contemporary art museum and an interactive LIVE DAY WITH AN ARTIST where they ask prepared questions and create original artwork under their guidance. Teachers are given a basic supply list (mostly materials they already have in the classroom) and students create alongside the professional artist. This program is designed to promote critical thinking, creative problem-solving, art vocabulary and techniques, and self-discovery through dialogue, discussion, and imagination. Engaging with visual art is a life skill and this program helps empower students and teachers to engage with art anywhere. MAM strives to remove all barriers to access while adapting to the needs of those we serve. MUSEUM AS MEGAPHONE started as a pilot program with St. Ignatius School in the Misson Valley and now serves over 800 students across Montana annually. Join us and register for MAM's next Museum as Megaphone!
