Dr. Beverly Ann Chin shares a research-based strategy that helps students expand sentence fluency. Through a sentence expansion workshop, she demonstrates how writers discover the different ways sentence structures affect meaning for their audiences. The sentence expansion workshop focuses on the revising process as it reinforces grammatical concepts. In addition to supporting students as confident, competent writers, teaching sentence expansion invites students to recognize and analyze authors' writing styles. This strategy workshop is especially helpful for English language learners. Throughout this session, participants engage in crafting and sharing their own expanded sentences and creatiing their own sentence expansion strategy lessons.
