Name
Centering Indigenous Voices in Historical Narratives
Description

How can educators authentically center Indigenous voices within their curriculum without treating these voices as token add-ons? In this session, Dylan will offer resources and paradigms for how to make an Indigenous voice and perspective the center of a lesson, project, or unit. This session is about treating Native American history as American history, rather than as a peripheral topic, while also stressing that there are present-day Indigenous voices we can use to better teach the past. Educators who take this session will also be equipped with how centering Indigenous voices helps us teach elementary, middle, and high school students the IEFA Essential Understandings.
