Speaker Bio
Jean C. O’Connor is the author of two historical fiction novels based on primary sources about a “forgotten founder,” James Lovell, a teacher at the Boston Latin School, prisoner of the British, and congressman, known as “the Revolution’s one-man National Security Agency:” The Remarkable Cause: A Novel of James Lovell and the Crucible of the American Revolution (Knox Press, 2021) and Congress’s Cryptographer: A Novel of James Lovell and the American Revolution (Mountain Pine Press, 2024). Growing up in New England, Jean developed a fascination with the American history evident in so many landmarks there. Her enjoyment of history as well as literature led to a teaching career of thirty-seven years in Montana, particularly in Helena, the capital. As an educator, she received the NCTE High School Teacher of Excellence Award. A few lines in her grandmother’s journal inspired her interest in James Lovell, her five times great-grandfather and honored inductee into the National Security Agency’s 2023 Cryptologic Hall of Honor for his work during the Revolution.
