Bridging Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultural differences with curiosity, mutual respect and understanding. What do you need to know, boots-on-the-ground, to teach IEFA in a way that is meaningful for the lives of our students in 2026 and beyond? What do Natives wish non-Natives knew? As a non-Native, how can you teach IEFA and Indigenous culture, being informed yourself as an educator beyond a book or documentary? Identifying what the whole purpose of IEFA education is, the WHY. Going beyond history and powwow lessons to the modern Native American person and life, so that what we teach is relevant to people and lives in our communities and current cultures. Bridging the narratives between colonization, guilt, real-life experiences, and prejudices so that we shape the future to reflect more curiosity and less assumption, more understanding and less ignorance, more respect and less wariness. A partnership of Indigenous and non-Indigenous voices and experiences coming to the table together to discuss the challenges and triumphs in teaching IEFA in non-reservation, maybe even Native under-populated, areas.
