Name
Nicotine and Our Youth: Educator Strategies for Prevention and Support
Description
As evidence grows about the harms of vaping, nicotine pouches, and nicotine addiction among young people, it is important for educators to understand how youth are targeted by an industry designed to profit from addiction. This one-hour session will provide teachers with an overview of the health risks of nicotine use and its effects on adolescent brain health and addiction. Participants will learn how the industry targets youth, how to recognize signs of student vaping, and practical school-based supportive and restorative responses—including the use of Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) and tobacco cessation supports as alternatives to suspension. The session will also highlight youth-led efforts that help peers stay nicotine-free and support healthier school communities.
