Name
Knowing Myself to Better Connect with Students, Educators, and the Community
Description

Dr. Sonia Nieto, a cultural competence expert and Professor Emeritus at the University of Massachusetts, noted it is important that we know ourselves as individuals who come from a particular culture. During this interactive workshop participants will learn more about themselves and the influence of culture and socialization. There will be further exploration and discussion of the process of socialization in establishing “norms” of individual identity a model of The Cycle of Socialization; which includes Implicit Bias, Microaggressions, and Stereotypes Resources. The workshop will encourage participants using a personal assessment to develop a progress plan within the competency areas of Social Emotional Intelligence for continuing growth in understanding cultural norms and building relationships with mutual respect for diverse perspectives held by students, parents, educators, and community members.
