Name
Using Mastery-Based Grading Practices in a Traditional Grading System
Description
What do grades mean? Why do we grade the way we do? This course is designed to facilitate a conversation about grading practices and assessment. It will also provide an introduction to a mastery-based grading system that can easily be implemented in a traditional grading system. The primary goal of the mastery-based system is to measure student proficiency in specific skills and learning intentions rather than awarding points based on compliance or averages. As part of the system, learn how to create authentic assessments that provide a clear picture of student proficiency, and areas where growth is needed. By implementing mastery-based practices, students can utilize a growth mindset to fully understand their grades, and truly take ownership of their learning.
