Name
Spiral Review That Sticks: A Simple System for Lasting Growth
Description
What if closing learning gaps in reading and math did not require more time, but a smarter, more intentional system that works across grade levels?
In this engaging and practical session, educators will explore a streamlined, standards-based spiral review model designed to increase student mastery in both literacy and mathematics across K–8 classrooms. Grounded in classroom action research and real implementation, this session demonstrates how identifying priority standards each quarter can guide focused instruction, consistent review, and meaningful progress monitoring.
Participants will learn how to implement a simple weekly spiral routine using 8 to 10 targeted questions, four days per week, with a quick progress check on Fridays to guide instructional decisions. This structure provides consistent opportunities for students to revisit essential skills while allowing teachers to gather clear, actionable data to adjust instruction, form small groups, and respond to student needs in real time.
This session connects directly to research on retrieval practice, distributed learning, and MTSS frameworks, showing how repeated exposure strengthens retention, builds confidence, and supports long-term mastery. Examples will span K–8 classrooms, including early literacy and number sense as well as upper elementary grammar, vocabulary, and multi-step problem solving.
Educators will leave with a clear, replicable system, sample question formats across grade bands, and ready-to-use structures that can be implemented immediately without adding overwhelm to their day.
