Number Sensible Strategies for Comparing Fractions - a units-based approach
Description
Attendees will investigate different ways to compare the size of two or more fractions using number-sensible strategies. Number-sensible strategies require participants to consider fractions through a "how many" of "some unit" approach instead of utilizing an algorithm or rote-memorization "tricks." Participants will be working together to use number-sensible strategies and discussing the implications of what they do. We hope, as an outcome, to encourage educators to think of fractions through a lens that is consistent with counting numbers.
