Coffee Culture and Preparation Science
Description

Coffee is a cultural staple around the globe. But what do we know about its role, its influence, or its effect on us our bodies, community or our world. Learn about how to utilize coffee in most any secondary classroom through a variety of lenses: including the science and process of preparing a "cup of Joe" to how this cultural icon influences the globe and the individual consumers of coffee. "The global coffee industry is a massive, growing market valued at roughly $250–$485 billion annually as of 2025-2026, depending on whether it includes retail, foodservice, or total economic impact. It is expected to grow to over $380 billion by 2034, driven by increasing consumption and premiumization." Is it healthy for us, is it worth the cost, and can we stop consuming it...if we want to. We will discuss this, but also give you a chance to try your hand at roasting your own beans, and brewing a cup.
