Customizing AI: Crafting Tools That Support Your Teaching Goals
Description

Generative AI use has grown beyond simple back-and-forth conversations or single outputs in a "vending machine" style. It's now possible to build custom AI assistants for educators that are always ready to help with specific tasks. This workshop moves past basic prompting to show you how to build your own "workflow assistants"—like Google Gemini Gems or Microsoft Copilot Agents—customized for your specific needs. Through the Frontier Learning Lab’s lens of safe, specific, and responsible AI use, you will learn how to provide these assistants with clear guardrails and directions. This process ensures that AI outputs are more consistently aligned with your professional experience, goals, and wisdom. We will also discuss essential considerations for creating student-facing agents to ensure their use remains safe and focused on learning. This is a hands-on workshop. Please bring a laptop and be prepared to log in to your school’s Google or Microsoft workspace to work within the AI model available to you through your school's domain (either Gemini or Copilot) so you can build and test your assistants during the session.
