As we can see from news events in 2026, controlling key bodies of water has always mattered and still does today. This talk will discuss the importance of naval warfare in history by focusing in on a few select periods of time including the Peloponnesian War, the late Middle Ages, Imperialism, and the world wars. While basic military strategy and technology changes will be discussed, the focus of this talk will be more on the political and economic implications of naval warfare for countries, empires, and the economy.
