Name
Know Your Audience--An Essential Element in Persuasive Writing
Description
For many students, their primary audience in writing is the teacher. If you want to encourage your students to write effectively for other audiences, you’ll enjoy this thought-provoking session. Dr. Beverly Chin discusses the importance of teaching students to remember their intended audience, especially when they are writing persuasive essays. She shows how the strategy of audience analysis helps students think carefully about the readers of their persuasive essays. By using audience analysis throughout the writing process, teachers reinforce the relationship between “writing like a reader” and “reading like a writer.”
