Name
Forget-Me-Not: Battling Historical Amnesia in the Social Studies Classroom
Description
In an age of information overload and selective memory, historical amnesia poses a serious threat to historical awareness and critical thinking. Led by Aidan Courtney, history teacher at Loyola Sacred Heart High School, this session explores the roots of collective forgetting—what gets left out, why it happens, and who it serves. Educators will walk away with strategies to engage students in reclaiming marginalized narratives, fostering historical empathy, and building a more inclusive, truth-centered classroom.
