Name
A Day at The Museum: Using PBLL to Design Engaging Language Experiences
Description
Project-based language learning (PBLL) has been shown to motivate students while providing ample opportunities to engage in many of the World Readiness Standards for Learning Languages. Yet creating PBLL lessons that include all seven essential project design elements as outlined by The Buck Institute for Education (PBLWorks) can be a long process that is not always realistic for all educators. This session shares how teachers can begin to use PBLL and still reap many of its benefits even if their projects do not include all seven design elements. By analyzing a museum project inspired by PBLL, this session provides a model for how to engage learners in all three modes of communication: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational, while also relating cultural products to perspectives and making connections to other disciplines such as art history and the humanities. Participants will leave the session with a project template that they can easily adapt to their own classes and contexts.
