Name
Behavior Modeling and Creative Confidence in the Arts
Description
In this interactive session, educators will discover how artistic behavior modeling is a key driver in developing creative confidence for both teachers and students. You’ll explore the powerful impact that modeling creativity has in the visual arts classroom, helping to foster an environment that encourages engagement, independence, and risk-taking. This hands-on approach not only nurtures creative growth in students but also contributes to problem-solving skills and a reduction in educator burnout. The first part of the session will delve into the research behind behavior modeling and how it can be applied effectively in your own classroom to enhance student creativity, independence, and engagement. In the second half of the session, we’ll focus on mitigating educator burnout through creative expression. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in low-stakes artistic experimentation. This approach fosters an artistic mindset that prioritizes the joy of creation over the pressure of completion, reigniting educator creativity and the role of the artist in art education. While this session is particularly relevant for high school art educators, the concepts shared are easily adaptable to K-12 classrooms with developmentally appropriate scaffolding. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with practical strategies to enhance creativity in your classroom, tools to combat burnout, and fresh inspiration for both your teaching and your own artistic practice.
