This session explores the power of historical journaling and handwriting to bring history alive for middle school students. Discover creative strategies to immerse students in history by writing from the perspective of historical figures, exploring primary sources, and developing empathy for past lives. Along the way, they will develop essential skills in critical thinking, researching, and writing while fostering a deeper understanding of historical contexts. Students and teachers will also utilize digital tools to support research, presentation, and sharing of student work while maintaining the authentic experience of handwritten journaling. Participants will leave with practical lesson plans, engaging activities, and a renewed appreciation for the unique learning opportunities offered by historical journaling and handwriting.
