Name
Engaging Students in Learning Vocabulary through Writing/Reading Workshops
Description
Many students overuse general words such as “nice,” “good,” and “pretty” in their descriptive writing. In this interactive session, Dr. Beverly Chin demonstrates a writing/reading workshop that builds students’ ability to use powerful, precise words in their descriptive paragraphs. This workshop reinforces the features of effective paragraphs: topic sentence, supporting details, and closing sentence. It also embodies the importance of writing for authentic purposes and audiences. By participating in this lively workshop, you’ll experience how vocabulary study can be a fun-filled collaborative activity that engages all students as creative writers and careful readers.
