In this breakout session, teachers will explore how to engage students in developing deeper, more meaningful questions that drive learning and critical thinking. Participants will discover how to craft purposeful tasks and create a classroom environment centered around questioning that transforms student engagement and learning outcomes. Through interactive activities, teachers will see firsthand how to use questions to spark curiosity, guide exploration, and enhance comprehension across subjects, particularly in science and engineering. Teachers will receive anchor charts and free thinking-routines that they can implement immediately in their classrooms to help students ask better questions. We will showcase examples from KnowAtom’s hands-on lesson routines, demonstrating how thoughtfully designed activities empower students to think like scientists and engineers and develop their own understanding by posing questions that push them to problem-solve, investigate, and innovate. This session will provide practical, actionable strategies for creating learning environments where questioning is at the heart of instruction, encouraging deeper student engagement and fostering a culture of thinking that extends beyond the classroom.
