Name
Cardiac Arrest in Youth; Meeting the Requirements of New State Legislation
Description
Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the leading cause of death in youth sports. Unlike cardiac arrest in an elderly person, those less than age 25 who arrest during exercise/sports activities have a very high chance of survival if an emergency action plan is in place, if responders and others have CPR/AED training, and an AED is available within 6 minutes of the cardiac arrest. This presentation will review the signs and symptoms of possible cardiac disfunction, provide skills in the recognition of cardiac arrest in athletes, and review tools needed for development of an emergency action plan. Additionally, resources needed to meet new statutory requirements related to AED access and cardiac arrest education will be provided.
