Name
Create a Bridge Across the Digital Divide Using Generative Artificial Intelligence
Description
The digital divide remains a persistent challenge in school systems nationwide, but it is particularly pronounced in Montana. Three main layers, as summarized in an article by the Digital Divide Council, include Access to Technology, Digital Literacy, and Use and Impact.
Educators have grappled with this issue for decades, seeking ways to close the gap. Several strategies have been employed, with varying degrees of success, including collaborations with state legislatures, partnerships between private and public entities, and investments in school curricula.
As new technology is introduced, the potential for the digital divide to widen becomes more possible, and it’s incumbent upon educators to find new ways to help students continue learning and thriving.
As students flourish, the impact of their accomplishments ripple throughout their lives.
Generative Artificial Intelligence presents both opportunities and challenges that continue to grow exponentially. Without access to technology, students will not become fluent and will continue to fall behind. Learning how to use it effectively will be critical regardless of the discipline. Students need facilitated guidance more than ever to promote critical thinking and creativity.
Participants will examine and create lesson plans centered on Generative Artificial Intelligence in this session. The focus will be on including all students in the process by demystifying and destigmatizing its use while ensuring that students consider the challenges inherent in using Generative AI.
