How can authentic research investigations be incorporated into the science classroom?
Description
The Research Education on Air and Climate Change Health (REACH) Program immerses students in science methods through research projects focused on indoor and outdoor air pollution and the potential impacts on human health. Teachers integrate new curriculum, incorporating guided inquiry and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and use novel science equipment, such as wearable PM2.5 air quality monitors in their science classes, enabling students to design their own research projects, collect data, analyze results, and present their findings in public settings. As students go through the research process, they grow their critical thinking skills and by the end of their project, students gain greater confidence in their scientific knowledge and an increased interest in science.
