Lucy Real Bird, I am Sees Many Berry Seasons, I am of the Piegan Clan and child of the Big Lodge Clan. I am Apsaalooke educator, mother, and rancher who helps raise bucking horses on Yellow Leggins Creek in the Wolf Teeth Mountains, like my father did before me. I was born and raised on the Crow Indian Reservation in the tradition of the Apsaalooke by my parents Timber Leader and Good Leader of the Parade, Henry and Alma Real Bird. Educated in Montana at Crow Agency, Hardin, Missoula, and Billings, I have a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I was born into a ranching family that raised cattle, which were sold to buy a herd of bucking horses in my youth. I am a stock contractor for rodeos and have taught school from Pre-kindergarten to College level. I have worked in the field of education and Indigenous Rights for over 20 years. As a mother, grandmother and educator, I support the knowledge of our language, the efforts of language revitalization, the importance of respect for culture, Indigenous Rights, and our way of life.
