Name
Environmental Science in a World of 8 Billion
Description

In fall 2022, our planet became home to 8 billion people, a doubling in less than 50 years. Understanding human population dynamics is vital to the study of biology and environmental science as our species' numbers and activities affect every ecosystem. In this inquiry-based, virtual workshop, the presenter will demonstrate how to use 3D learning to explore population trends and projections, and their connections to several environmental challenges, including climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss. New data sets from the U.N. and other government and academic sources will be shared. Activity formats include modeling and group simulations, as well as small group data analysis and inquiry. The presenter will also share interactive, digital tools for students to use in and outside of the classroom. All materials match Montana Science Standards.
