Name
Pandemonium on the Prairie: Crime and Conflict on the Montana Plains, 1831 - 1899
Description

While the economic and infrastructure history of Central and Eastern Montana can appear a bit dry at times, we can use more popular themes, like true crime, to engage and interest students in stories that are fascinating but NOT overly sensationalized. We’ll look at societal norms around conflict and crime, cultural differences on the Plains, available resources, and the ways that three 19th century incidents shaped the future of the “flatlands.” And we’ll find out how a future President of the United States almost ended up in an organized crime group in Montana!
