Hello! My name is Amber Yates. I spent 5 years teaching kindergarten at Thompson Falls Elementary School for 5 years. I recently began my 6th year of teaching Kindergarten in Harrison, Montana. I am passionate about engaging students in higher level thinking by problem-solving real world, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math tasks. I have published research with Dr. Megan Wickstrom in the book, Exploring Mathematical Modeling with Young Learners. This research focused on how students perceive themselves as math learners and how we can improve their dispositions towards mathematics with real-world STEM problems. I am passionate about giving students opportunities to solve real-world STEM problems through engaging tasks, and I look forward to sharing the different ways I do this in my classroom.
