Section 504 (Rehabilitation Act of 1973) addresses protections for students with disabilities and provides accommodations to support students in accessing their education in the K-12 setting (and beyond). While senior legislation to the more carefully managed, and likely better understood, Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), there tends to be more confusion surrounding 504 eligibility and accommodations. This session will extricate the similarities and differences between Section 504 and IDEA, as well as bring clarity to 504 evaluation, eligibility, and accommodations. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with case scenarios and create mock accommodation plans to apply the new knowledge and equip them with skills and tools they need to better support students in their K-12 settings.
